ResMed Discontinues Swift and Mirage Masks

Whether you are a patient or a healthcare practitioner, ResMed is likely to be an important part of your treatment system. ResMed's announcement regarding discontinuing two lines of their legacy masks is particularly significant.

Instead of viewing it as a hassle, consider it an opportunity to upgrade, as ResMed intended.

ResMed will continue to sell the Swift and Mirage masks listed below until March 2023:

  • Swift FX Nano Nasal Mask.
  • Swift FX Nano For Her Nasal Mask.
  • Swift II Nasal Pillows Mask.
  • Mirage Micro Nasal Mask.
  • Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.
  • Ultra Mirage II Nasal Mask.
  • Mirage Liberty Full Face Mask.
  • Swift LT Nasal Pillow Mask.
  • Swift LT For Her Nasal Pillow Mask.

After that, any of the stated masks you can get your hands on will be the final ones made.

ResMed intends to mail package inserts to patients whose masks have been discontinued in the coming months to directly tell them. They also have materials available on their website and myAir - the ResMed app - to help patients transition smoothly from outdated masks to newer ones.

Why Discontinue Swift and Mirage Masks?

While ResMed's Swift and Mirage masks were already fantastic for CPAP treatment, particularly the nasal cushion masks, the company's latest portfolio is a true game changer.

Swift and the Ultra Mirage lines are both forerunners to the improved AirFit masks.

The Swift is primarily a nasal mask, with a snug fit on the philtrum and little contact with the rest of the face. While the masks appear to be flawless, the loudness seemed to disturb some folks.

Indeed the nasal masks are larger on the Ultra Mirage making one major issue with them is that a portion of the mask hides your eyes. So, you can't watch or read anything while wearing the Ultra Mirage mask.

ResMed will continue to release AirFit replacements for every Mirage and Swift mask that is discontinued. More Swift and Mirage products are likely to be withdrawn in the future, so you may want to move to the AirFit series entirely.

ResMed's current designs take into account all of the Swift and Mirage customer issues. The new AirFit masks appear to be smaller. The ventilation system is greatly improved, resulting in a significant reduction in noise.

While the new AirFit masks are hardly noticeable on your face, the technology is advanced enough that the mask will not slip off your face at night.

What are the alternatives?

ResMed recommends the AirFit N20 mask above the Swift and Mirage masks.

While different AirFit masks are available to address particular issues with your sleep apnea therapy, the AirFit N20 is ResMed's most popular nasal mask.

It has a simple but effective design. In fact, ResMed claims that this mask fits 99 percent of people worldwide, regardless of facial shape or size.

It comes with headgear that covers the top and rear of your head but leaves most of your hair undisturbed. The frame runs down both sides of your face and meets over your nasal bridge.

The cushion fits into the frame at the nose and only covers up to your philtrum. Fit your tubing to the cushion and disassemble it as needed.

The design leaves the space around your eyes and lips open. So, even with the mask on, you can wear glasses and converse with others.

Those whose mouth falls open while receiving CPAP therapy, on the other hand, may not make much progress with the ResMed AirFit N20.

AirFit F30i, AirTouch F20, AirFit F20, or AirFit F30 may be a better fit for them.

If you have a beard, AirFit P10, AirTouch F20, and AirTouch N20 would suit you best. Those with sensitive skin or allergies seem to like AirTouch F20, AirFit F20, AirTouch N20, etc.
