Trust built on vulnerability: I recently enjoyed reading "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Patrick Lencioni. This fable about a CEO striving to build a functional team was admittedly a bit cheesy, but it offered valuable insights. I would recommend it for anyone interested in team dynamics. One key takeaway was the distinction between trust based on predictability and trust built on vulnerability. While I understood the importance of leaders behaving predictably, I hadn’t considered how vulnerability could establish a foundation of trust. According to Lencioni, leaders who acknowledge their knowledge gaps, limitations, and mistakes—and who seek input and guidance from their team members—naturally build trusting relationships. This perspective resonates with me, especially regarding younger team members who often don’t respond well to a "know-it-all," "I've got this," "wait for my instructions" approach to leadership. Instead, they appreciate leaders who are open and willing to engage collaboratively.#FiveDysfunctionsofateam #Leadership #BuildingTrust

I really like Pat's framework as well. I think that it's quite simple and intuitive on the surface but can actually have quite an impact on how you manage a team. I'm glad you enjoyed it Alan.

The team at Officeworks Windsor had great stories to tell me and Susan Thompson about customer responses to being asked to make a donation in store. They love it when customers say they are already sponsoring a student from The Smith Family and they can talk about the impact the support is having on students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Thank you Windsor Store #thanksofficeworks.

It’s so inspiring to meet Officeworks staff supporting The Smith Family Back to School Appeal. From the Oxley store, Colleen, the instore campaign coordinator and Sue, the stores highest fundraiser are 100% committed to helping children succeed at school. Sue goes the extra mile bringing cheese cakes and chocolate chip cookies to the store and selling them with all proceeds going to the appeal. A huge thank you. #thanksofficeworks

It was great to meet one of the store managers at Officeworks Milton Simon Ney. Simon says the store has a goal to raise enough funds to sponsor a whole classroom of students. That’s thirty students. From all here at The Smith Family a huge thank you to the team at the Milton store in Brisbane.

I was so excited today to visit the Perth CBD Officeworks store, to say #ThanksOfficeworks in person to their team! The Officeworks Back to School Appeal has been raising money to sponsor students in need on The Smith Family'sLearning for Lifeprogram for eleven years now – how incredible is that? It’s so clear to see how much work the team in the store puts in to supporting The Smith Family through the appeal. You can get behind the appeal by donating at any Officeworks store until February 11.

I am proud to be a General Manager at The Smith Family and I personally find it very satisfying being a sponsor of a student. Consider sponsoring a child this Christmas #christmas #giving #education
